2d digital compositing: nuke

As an intro to the massive software that is Nuke, we were given 4 projects throughout the semester to serve as an intro to the wonderous world of 2D compositing.

The creative brief was to shoot a plate of a non-digital screen, and then create an animated poster that must start static and "come to life" in a creative way.

project 01:

animated poster

The objective of this project was to teach students the basic keying techniques in Nuke, shooting plate footage, and fabricating assets for compositing. The objective of this project was to create a fundamental understanding of pulling a simple single-step key, the process of common screen replacement, simple animation techniques in Nuke, and the crucial fundamental of edge integrity.

project 02:

breaking the frame

The deliverable for this project was a 5-15 second Adidas branded scene, with a character showcasing a specific Adidas product, and integrated typography using the Adidas branding, using a green screen composite.

Thank you to amazing cel-animator, Elisabeth Augustine for being my actor for this project!

project 03:

keying for humans

The objective of this project is to teach the basic camera tracking techniques in Nuke, shooting plate footage, and fabricating assets for compositing. The goal of this project was to create a fundamental understanding of camera tracking, the process of common CG integration with live action plates using basic AOVs and Redshift Rendering. Furthermore, this project will help solidify understanding of grading, grain, color correction and tracking. This will be done doing a product rendering, in this case a bowl of cherries.

project 04:
