INDIE FILM PRODUCTION ID
The brief given was to create a memorable identity for an Independent Film Production Studio, that creatively but concisely captures the attitude of the studio. Alternatively, also integrate the logo build into an existing film that the company has produced.
RESEARCH
The studio assigned to this brief was A24. Their projects have had a major influence on style in contemporary horror and arthouse films. A24 is also known for the originality and artistic style of films it produces.
the backrooms (2025)
In February 2023, a Backrooms movie was announced by A24, though information on production has been scarce. My logo pitches for this animation are based around integrating the A24 logo into this films environment. The Backrooms is a niche internet horror concept stemming from the fear of the unknown. Starting with live action footage of an outdoor scene. The camera falls and “no clips” through the ground into a 3D rendered backroom. To reference the low quality of these found footage backroom videos, the A24 logo will animate over the footage with a VHS filter.
LOGO approach 01:
VHS FILTER
This approach would feature various 3D rendered liminal spaces with the A24 logo camouflaged into the scene. The camera will descend through every room to reference the “sublevels” in Backroom lore, while also representing how different A24 media is from one another.
LOGO APPROACH 02:
NO CLIPPING

With the 2nd approach having more variety, the concept of a handheld camera from the 1st approach would be implemented. Instead of just falling through rooms, the camera will look around them to see the logo animating onto the walls.

second pass animation
The A24 logo wasn’t prevalent enough in the scenes to be noticed in a timely manner, and the camera shakes needed to be dialed back to give audiences more time to see what was going on in the scenes.
To replicate the jittery quality of a handheld camera, a vibrate animation tag was added to my C4D camera animation. The rotation and position settings were very low so the shake would not be distracting, but subtle enough to be noticeable.

Audio
Using Adobe Audition, the sound design needed to have the realistic sounds of footsteps and water, but also incorporate the low fidelity VHS static and glitches to reflect the visuals.
