Nickelodeon’s kids choice awards
Nickelodeon is a children's television channel and entertainment brand. The Nickelodeon Kids' Choice Awards (KCA) is an esteemed annual event hosted by the Nickelodeon network. Celebrated for honoring outstanding achievements in television, film, and music, as determined by Nickelodeon viewers globally, the KCA is distinctive for its interactive format and the iconic sliming of celebrities. This project focuses on the 2020 iteration of the awards, which never aired as originally advertised, due to the COVID-19 Pandemic.
brief
In this project, students are presented with the unique challenge of using the assets provided by Nickelodeon to create NEW IDs for the KCA 2020 Campaign. This opportunity involves working with professional-grade assets exclusively provided to Ringling College.
This approach focuses more on type than the collage of graphic elements seen in the branding guide. Iconography will serve more as decoration for the type rather than the main animation in the scene.
pitch approach 01:
This approach will focus on more centralized compositions with various arrangements of the various icon and emoji graphics to visualize the high energy, playful & hyper-ness of this event.
pitch APPROACH 02:
The client felt the typographic approach was fun. The first pass was far along the way but needed a tighter edge key for the composite. The scenes felt flat and needed some more z-depth by having the slime weave between Chance.

second pass composite
There were still some odd edges around Chance so the key needed work, along with other minor technical errors such as cropping issues and icons disappearing before transitions.
I wanted the Nick logo to have a fun squishy softbody simulation, but the motion wasn’t as interesting as I had wanted, so a balloon inflation simulation was used instead. While this 3D Nick logo was provided by Nickelodeon, this is the only animated piece in the sequence done by me.
Applications used for this project; Nuke X for compositing, DaVinci Resolve for color correction, and After Effects for icon layouts.

All scenes were divided by backdrop nodes in Nuke X, with the ground contact shot using the 3D layering system in Nuke. My 3D animation of the Nickelodeon logo used AOV render passes.
